86 YEAR OLD MORGAN 4/4 ENGINE STRIPDOWN FOR HEAD GASKET FAIL -COVENTRY CLIMAX ENGINE
My 1936 Morgan 4/4 started to misfire, smoke and push water out the exhaust.
Suspected a head gasket failure. The engine is a 1122cc Coventry Climax unit with overhead inlet valves and side valve exhaust valves.
Being a pre-war English car, it requires Whitworth sized spanners and sockets to dismantle the engine.
Spare parts, for the Morgan "Flatrad" Series 1, are available from the Morgan Sports Car Club. I've ordered a cylinder head gasket. I will also replace the top radiator hose with 1 7/8" ID Silicone hose.

JEDI RACE CAR CHAIN DRIVE LSD REPAIR
Переглядів 371День тому
At the Forrestburn Hillclimb, on the first day of a two day event, Stuart Mather's 600cc Jedi single seater race car suffered a broken output shaft on its chain drive differential. The Jedi's chain drive is based on a classic Mini's limited slip differential and used 10 spline LSD output shafts. Luckily I had a new pair of output shafts however these needed to be modified to suit the wide beari...
Alternative Racing Line and a Blind Driver at Forrestburn Hillclimb Track Day

Forrestburn Hillclimb track day 2nd June 2024 Took the 1970 Jeffrey Mk3b, 750cc Reliant powered, sports racing car. Just fitted a Reliant Robin (4 synchro) gearbox in place of the original Reliant Regal (3 synchro) unit. The Robin box has slightly longer gear ratios which should help to carry more speed through some of the corners. We got plenty of runs in and I was trying of few different line...
Citroen Ami EV Ran Out of Power after 37 Miles - in a Thunderstorm!
Переглядів 68221 день тому
Set out in warm sunshine, in my Citroen Ami Electric Quadricycle, for a trip into the Ochil Hills of Perthshire. I intended to drive down Dunning Glen and onto Auchterarder where I could recharge the car for the return journey. Unfortunately the weather turned nasty and I decided to return when I got (the 18.5 miles) to Dunning Village. In theory I would have enough range (24 miles) to get back...
GTM ROSSA Not Run in (2) Years
Переглядів 78228 днів тому
My GTM Rossa Mk2 was parked up two years ago as it had problems with a slipping clutch. It has been parked on a grass verge all that time and I needed to move it to mow the grass. I charged up the battery and the 1275 Mini A-Series engine started straight away. Unsurprisingly, a few of the electrics have stopped working and the interior was a bit damp. With the slipping clutch it was a bit diff...
A Jackdaw Wrecked My House! - Jackdaw Rescued from Chimney
Переглядів 119Місяць тому
A Jackdaw was trying to build a nest in my chimney but it fell down to behind my Morso wood burning stove. There was a steel register plate, in the fireplace, to connect the stove to the flue - it was well cemented in. A lot of soot and nest building material was behind the register plate. I tried to use a fishing landing net to catch the bird but as you will see that plan did not work. The Jac...

how old was the old head gasket approx? how long did it take to disassemble it?
I wasn't expecting to see a layered composite gasket on that. Interesting configuration, could you call it a semi cross flow?
I was thinking “where are the rest of the valves” until the caption explaining it was inlet over exhaust. 👍
Fantastic turn around and very interesting fracture pattern. Well done.
It's not unusual for me to come back from an event with various competitors broken parts to repair overnight.
Di you have Amazon links for the seat and lumbar pads? Thanks!

No thats just a load of idiots. Not one. White car clearly did that on purpose
Great job Doug ! They will have the car back on the track in no time. Well done Sir 😁👍
Hi Lloyd, I fixed the LSD on the Saturday night and refitted it to the car on Sunday morning. It ran perfectly! Doug.
You’re videos are great I,m now currently starting to build a chain drive diff for a road buggy and watching your videos are a great help with what I’m doing 👍👍👍😎
Glad my videos are helping you. Doug
I have a GTM like this but mine needs re-commissioning and its habit of making the drivers cabin a bit too warm on a run, curing.....i need to try and solve that.
I get quite a lot of heat coming in from the central tunnel (from the water pipes and the front radiator)
This video had a better plotline and drama than most modern films.
Ha Ha!
That was an MG? First time seen this model?
This was a kit built car which used the engine, steering wheel and dashboard from an MG Metro. The body is a monocoque shell constructed from GRP. Classic BMC Mini front subframes and suspension are fitted at both ends.
2.28 👏👏👏👏👏
Hoping to take my Ami to Bo'ness for 30th Aug, then the farm and impreza for the 31st Aug and 1st September Anniversary Hillclimb. Still looking for safe sets of hand for either or both cars. Planning on test-driving/fettling and insuring both. If you'd like a 'shot' - give me a holler. Are you intending to go? Cheers, W 👍
PS in it to finish although all podiums/ftd's etc greatly appreciated!
Hi William, I was also thinking of bringing my Ami to Bo'ness to display at the EV event on the 31st.
Fantastic sounding engine at full song, had no idea they were that capable,
The Reliant engine can be made to 'sing'!
Airfilter in your boot. Because why not?
Because engine is in the boot!
@@DougsShed no the engine is in the engine compartiment. Then there is a (hope) firewall and then the boot. 🤷🏻♂️
any chance the part numbers?

Always hate to hear all the buzzing and beeping when you aren’t home. Like they say your mileage may vary 🏁😁👍
Hi Lloyd, nothing worse that a warning bleep from an engine check or ABS light. Usually means something expensive.
Looks like you had a start for a good run Doug till you got in the weeds on that last corner. Good run to learn from. Cheers
Hi Lloyd, luckily this was a test session and I now know not to do that again!
blind driver seemed to be doing ok,
Disappointed he did not have a guide dog in the passenger seat.
What a brilliant little piece of road ❤
The hillclimb track has been used in a couple of films including a remake of "The 39 Steps" and Timothy Spall's "The Last Bus"
@@DougsShed That's interesting.
There seems to be room for 280ah cells which would more than double the range
Unfortunately the Ami's battery and control system work on a canbus system and hacking them is beyond my pay grade.
looks great fun day, fast run too
"Fast" is a relative term when you only have 50bhp!
@@DougsShed 😂🤣😅
That was exciting, I didn't think muscle memory applied to strimmers! The Mini doesn't have a mulching attachment though.
Hi Niall, luckily the Jeffrey is flat floored from front to back and it does not collect grass underneath.
Hadn’t enough for you Dougie?🤣🤣
Hi Phil, ran out of talent and road!
really? are you new? get a bigger better battery, all that pretty car ain't worth the dust it's made out of without a serious power source, it's really the engine, the electric motor is just the transmission to the ground of the batteries power. so spend your money on the battery or save and carry extra batteries. electricity is the gas battery is the motor electric motor is the transmission
What?😅
Yup, that's definitely a Ramp. Under different conditions, that would have been a lovely run and starting out under those conditions, you wouldn't expect to need the genset. Man that was Stoatin' at your place.
Yes it was!
I only get near full range, about 44 miles. If i reverse my journeys exactly. I go up a couple of steep hills regularly, but always go back the same way. More random journeys are impossible to judge energy wise.
Best I have ever done was 38 miles to the 3 mile warning.
Perhaps the wipers use up the battery range.
Makes feel good when they run that well after setting a while. It’s been raining here almost as much as you lately Doug.
Hi Lloyd, just been watching your holiday snaps from Holland. Looks like you had a nice time. It really rained on Wednesday - today's (Friday) video shows the torrential rain I encountered when out in the little electric Ami.
More GTM videos please
I'll try!
This was absolutely amazing to watch, most helpful and straight-forward video i have seen yet, thank you.
Glad it was helpful to you!
Sad when the mower gets more run time than the GTM. There's more of them?
I have a few!
@@DougsShed Oh you tease 😆
Hallo sir, a wich year of build is it? Regarts
Hi, it was a year 2000, A1 model
Dont bother , the batteries will be dead long before rust is a problem and it will be landfill .
Well done, dude. Very informative, thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
👏👏👏👏👏
You kept your composure well, I'd have been swearing profusely. You can't really get angry with wildlife.
No point in getting stressed out.
For early season that's a bloody good showing. Gearing looks to be near perfect judging by how you managed to keep it on throttle for so much of the time, traction was impressive and sounded really good. All the hard work is paying off, well done Doug.
Hi Niall, 3rd gear seems just right for the run up to the top of East Brae, 2nd gear is a bit too high a ratio for the esses. I think the Reliant Robin 4 synchro box would give me more speed through the esses.
That bird shot out of there like a rocket when the time was right. I could just imagine you swinging the net trying to catch it. Brilliant job Doug 👍
Hi Lloyd, if you have ever seen me trying to net a fish.........🐟
well done, bill it for your time spent cleaning up. :P
Luckily the bird just flew towards the window and was easy to catch.
Brilliant run Doug, the car is sounding great on the corners and straights. 🏁
Thanks Lloyd, probably the best track conditions we have had in years.
@@DougsShed Hello Doug is that really a Jeffery J4 , there cant be many of them left and running in the UK ?
@@budbud2509 Hi, this is the earlier Jeffrey Mk3b which was for 750MC racing. The J4 was a road going version. The J4 was very similar to the Mk3 except it had rear suspension arms coming from the rear of the chassis to the live axle, it also had fibreglass bodywork. The J4 was reincarnated as the F27 kit car.
@@DougsShed Thanks for your reply Doug Yes I had a J4 as well !! ( it came to a sticky end in the midlands ice ) And something 'I'm not so proud of is I actually worked for Jeffery and did the Bonnet and Dashboard cover that housed the windscreen I also seem to remember that a front wing model was started and I took that over made the models for both rear wings and the other side. front wing , the nose cone was made by Jeffery himself . The fibreglass was done by a Bob Telford who went on to buy Mini Jem. Last time I saw Bob was on TV a documentary about the DeLorean project and there he was sitting in a meeting at Lotus !! I was only there for a few months ( 3 ? ) and it was very early in my career as a Pattern Maker. Yes I do remember the 3B , the chassis were built by a couple of RAF technicians from Brize Norton who seemed to do a week on and a week off. That was a few years back !!
@@budbud2509 Finally I've found someone with first-hand knowledge of George Jeffrey and the manufacture of the cars. If you would like to share any of the history, there is a Jeffrey Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/366800030074560 Doug.
Brilliant video Doug, really like the back seat passenger who pans the camera for each corner 😂
A good effect of the GoPro stabilisation.
great video Doug, And thanks for all your help and advice at the weekend, And Angus , And for the stickers too
Hi John, Great weekend. I watched your video of your 'wobble' after Garden Gate!
Fixing broken parts on a brand new car…quality 👌🏻
I'm surprised that Vauxhall/Opel Corsa F owners are not seeing the same problem (same part).
Badger 😉
You have the best and easiest example on the internet period. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us! I’m doing a krosskart build. This will be how I do the rear end.
Happy to help!
Is there any harm to the battery or engine when shifting the downhill gear to N position? thank you
I would not recommend 'coasting' down hills in neutral. The electric motor is always being turned by the wheels and you could over rev the motor. At 40 mph the electric motor would be turning at almost 10000 rpm.
This would be an asset to Scottish tourism, especially on this well-known ship.
Restoration of the Maid of the Loch is underway. facebook.com/MaidtoSail
Looking sharp on the track Doug. How did it handle?
Hi Lloyd, I've never driven this one. I looked out the old 2007 video to post on a facebook page relating to the recent passing of the original designer/builder - Jim Sword.
Tom Graham or Richard Green jnr?
Tom had Jasag4 , then Richard then Dougie Brown.
